What are Quad Black Inks
Lyson Inks Quad Black is a high quality pigment based fade resistant Black and White ink set for Fine Art and Photographic inkjet printing using Canon and Epson printers.

Produced by Lyson Inks Limited, Quad Black inks enable a normal four or six color ink jet printer to produce stunning black and white images with a tonal graduation to match traditional silver halide photographic processes. Available in Neutral tone, Quad Black inks are supplied in new ready to use cartridges compatible for use on many popular makes of photo quality ink jet printer.

How does Quad Black Work?
Instead of filling the separate compartments in a set of cartridges with the normal color inks, Lyson fills with four or six (dependent on printer model) intensities of the same black ink. This enables the printer to lay down more dots of ink for each level of grey in an image and so greatly improves tonal graduation. Setting up an image to print properly with Quad Black is extremely simple and full instructions are supplied with each cartridge.

Reliability
Thorough testing of all Lyson Inks cartridges is carried out using a stringent procedures as the machine manufacturer. These tests include a 10,000 page full coverage print run without nozzle failure.

Before you use Lyson Quad Black Inks
Before you install Lyson Small Gamut inks into your printer, it is highly recommended that you first use Lyson Cleaning Cartridges, this will not only ensure that your printer heads are clean but will flush your system ensuring that no ink is left from your previous cartridge which could cause cross contamination.

Q: Why do I not need to use a profile when using Lyson Quad Black inks in conjuction with a Epson 2100 printer. How do I set the tone of the print when using this inkset
A: A profile for this inset is not required, to achive the required result the density of the image needs to be adjusted this can be done in Photoshop by using either the curves or levels function. Most users of Lyson the Quad Black inks adjust the tone by means of the colour controls from within the Epson printer driver, moving the Magenta slider bar will result in the image having a warmer appereance while the Cyan slider will result in the print having a cooler tone.

To give you a starting point the general settings for the Quad Black inks are as follows:

Resolution: 1440 Dots per inch ( DPI )
High Speed: on
Media Setting: Water Colour Radient White / Premium semi gloss photo Paper
Colour Controls: on (Mode: Photo realistic, Gamma: 2.2 (colour sliders all 0 except magenta and cyan which can be adjusted)
